PUBLIC HOLIDAY ALERT! Finally, Canterbury Anniversary weekend is on the horizon. Events, sun, and a Friday off work and school. Happy days!
So, what’s on offer around the amazing city and region of ours? From BLOOM events to the great outdoors, Ōtautahi Christchurch and Waitaha Canterbury are flush with ways to maximise these warmer days, so make the most and explore your own backyard.
Explore Canterbury Your Way
Now’s the perfect time to explore your city, during the beautiful season of spring. The days are longer, the weather is warmer, and your Canterbury adventures await! From thrill-seeking to chillaxed adventures, this is the place to be thanks to our diverse landscape and outdoor-loving nature.
Christchurch’s flat environment makes it an ideal place to explore a little differently. Segway under the trees through Hagley Park, jump on a e-scooter, or take to the hills to cycle the many Port Hills trails, in search for the perfect picnic spot.
Curb the heat by chomping down an ice cream at one of many spots around town – a real fruit ice cream would be the way to go! Or if you’re feeling a little parched, explore the vineyards across North Canterbury, soaking in the afternoon sun while you’re at it.
Spring Events For You
The New Zealand Agricultural Show ushers more than 100,000 people through its gates every year, keen to see the best of what rural Canterbury has to offer. Unleash your inner-kid in the carnival area and ride the Show’s first rollercoaster! Pat the cute animals, have a boogie to live music from Kings, The New Zealand Army Band and more, and munch on hotdogs and candyfloss – absolute Show classic. The Show runs from November 13-15, get your tickets now.
If there was a race day for both parents and kids, Show Day Races on 15 November are the ones to attend. Ideally suited to the little ones, there is entertainment aplenty for the kids, including the inaugural Show Day Races petting zoo! Delicious food and drink is available throughout the Addington Raceway complex, as well as on the Lindauer and Blanc de Blanc lawns. Get your tickets here.
New Zealand’s largest travelling show is back in town! REJOICE! The Extravaganza Fair features unique arts and craft stalls, circus shows, performers, and tiny homes on display. What? All this in one place – AT ONE TIME? Stop it. Head to the Gloucester Green (corner of Gloucester and Madras Streets) from 15-17 November for a weekend of the unexpected.
This year’s Little Andromeda festival is a jam-packed programme of artists and their rich diversity and talent. Nine epic weeks of more than 100 performances leave you no excuse to be bored this spring. Check out the programme to see what’s on during Canterbury Anniversary Weekend.
