Events That Make Spring Unique In Ōtautahi Christchurch

Crater Rim Ultra - 16 October
The Port Hills and Banks Peninsula are the arena for this epic trail run. The Crater Rim Ultra is fast becoming a ‘must run’ event on New Zealand’s racing calendar with options for all fitness levels. The run takes competitors from the banks of the Heathcote River, around Whakaraupō Lyttelton Harbour to the summit of Mt Herbert…and back.
T20 Tri Series Cricket - 7-9 & 11-14 October
Two massive sessions of international T20 cricket are coming to Christchurch this spring, bringing together the talents of the BLACKCAPS, Bangladesh and Pakistan. Get down to Hagley Oval on 7 - 9 October and 11 - 14 October to see these cricketing giants battle it out for T20 Tri-Series supremacy. Tickets are a bargain and some of the matches are under lights. Epic.
Fast5 Netball - 4-6 November
Netball but not like you know it. Five-a-side. Fast action. Power plays. And a party in the stands. This is the Fast5 Netball World Series. The world’s six best sides will come face-to-face at Christchurch Arena from 4 - 6 November. The Fast5 Ferns have taken out seven titles since 2009 – will they make it eight?
NZ Cup Week At Riccarton Park - 5, 9 & 12 November
Rounding out the racing on offer in spring, NZ Cup Week at Riccarton Park is another landmark spring event. Three events make up Riccarton’s horse offering, culminating in the Martin Collins New Zealand 158th New Zealand Cup on Saturday 12 November. This is one of the region’s biggest social events and attracts thousands of punters and party people. Get down to the track for other racing events on 5 and 9 November to make a real week of it.
Addington Cup Week - 8 & 11 November
One of Christchurch’s flagship events in spring, Addington Cup Week at Addington Raceway entices thousands of residents and visitors every year. They flock in their frocks and saunter in their suits, sipping bubbles, placing bets, and just generally having a lovely time. The IRT NZ Trotting Cup Day on Tuesday 8 November is the big one and Show Day Races on the Friday will only cost you a gold coin. Ask anyone and they’ll say the same – this is a uniquely Christchurch event worth making the time for.
The New Zealand Agricultural Show - 9-11 November
The traditional and celebratory meeting of town and country at A&P shows is synonymous with Kiwi culture, and it doesn’t get any bigger than the New Zealand Agricultural Show in Christchurch. From competitive shearing to fairground rides, prize livestock to show jumping, wood chopping and endless food trucks and kids entertainment – The Show is one of the best annual days out in New Zealand.
