This reserve is managed by the Takapūneke Reserve Co-Governance Group, who provide guidance for the management and development of the reserve in accordance with the Takapūneke Reserve Management Plan, adopted in 2018. The Co-Governance group consists of three elected members from Ōnuku Rūnanga and three members from Christchurch City Council.
