PurePods expands into Waipara

25 January 2017

Inner-city indulgence meets idyllic isolation with the launch of a new glass eco-cabin, near Christchurch.

Perched above the award-winning Greystone Winery in the Waipara Valley, the glass-walled PurePod enables visitors to experience a luxury hotel space while enjoying dramatic North Canterbury landscapes.

Set snugly in the Omihi hills, the private pod features walls of glass on three sides, affording sweeping views of the vine-covered flats and hills of the Waipara Valley and the stars above.

Even the shower and toilet have glass floors.

Greystone is the fourth PurePod location, building on the success of a concept developed by
Christchurch’s PurePods Ltd in Little River on Banks Peninsula, and two in the hills of inland Kaikoura.

Chief executive Stephanie Hassall says the company is tapping into a growing market of city dwellers who yearn for nature.

“A PurePod stay is like no other. It’s an intensely deep immersion into pure New Zealand. Imagine being all alone in a stunning natural location in a luxury glass cabin, after leaving your car parked safely and completing a 10 minute walk through a wonderful natural environment. A PurePod stay reconnects you with nature while keeping you safe, warm and dry,” she said.

The Greystone PurePod’s sliding doors open up onto a deck with sweeping views of a rising star of the New Zealand wine scene.

For star-gazers, the glass roof and lack of light pollution ensure unimpeded views of the Milky Way. A telescope and star map enable even novices to explore the night sky.

As with all other PurePods, the Greystone PurePod is located in an isolated spot and is well above the main vineyard activities, so there is no need to feel concerned about privacy.

Ms Hassall says: “All over New Zealand there are spectacular, secluded spots of amazing beauty, filled with unique plants, birds and animals.

“To stay in a PurePod is to totally engage with nature via all five senses.”

PurePods are solar-powered, operating fully off the grid. They are deliberately free of a wi-fi connection. Guests can be assured of tranquility, and a minimal carbon footprint.
