Lyttelton Port Company (LPC)

Lyttelton Port Company (LPC) is the largest Port in the South Island, taking our region’s goods to the world.

LPC is the South Island’s largest international trade gateway, facilitating the movement of $5.6 billion of exports and $4.8 billion of imports in the last financial year. The Port is New Zealand’s second-largest export hub.

The Port is a logistics hub connecting Antarctic explorers from across the world to the wonders of the Ross Sea. During the Antarctic season, LPC regularly welcomes Antarctic research vessels and scientists from programmes across the globe, providing an important pit stop on their way to and from the ice.
The connection between LPC and Antarctica has a history going back more than 100 years, to the days of explorers Scott and Shackleton, and the reasons for coming back to Lyttelton remain the same for the “Antarctic Explorers” of today – friendly people delivering exceptional service.

LPC has recently launched the Port’s Sustainability Strategy and commitments to Prosperity, People and the Planet. This is why LPC is proud of the Port’s strong connection with the Antarctic community, supporting important climate research undertaken by today’s Antarctic scientists.
