You'll find a laid back vibe and humming coffee machine at South Town Club with the added bonus of a well-thought out brunch menu.
Head south of the CBD and you’ll stumble across ‘South Town’ - the city’s scruffier, cooler neighbourhood that perpetually calls you in because there’s something new to discover. The latest is South Town Club on Welles St. A sweet collab between the old owner’s Supreme and Dan Hobson, an absolute champion of top-notch hospitality.
The laid back vibe and humming coffee machine continues but now there’s the added bonus of a well-thought out brunch menu with an assortment of flavours and combinations to try (espresso + chilli butter and the miso glazed mushroom instantly grab our attention). There’s some welcome surprises - the avocado comes on cornbread with kasundi and you can add a side of Grater Goods faken for those wanting a plant-based treat. Dan wants customers to push their boundaries when it comes to brekkie, and invites them to come on in for a culinary awakening.
South Town Club has other gems up their sleeves too; the hangover sauce is downright delicious, a smoky yet sweet ketchup, that generously befriends the muffin – a must for anyone recovering from a big night on the tiles. If you like your condiments spicy, we recommend you add the homemade korean chilli sauce to almost everything you see, but maybe not your flat white. And be sure to sample the cascara, an effervescent soda made using the cherry part of the coffee bean (normally discarded during processing). Luckily Supreme can supply cascara by the bucket load and South Town Club boils it down with a splash of alchemy to create a yummy syrup that’s mixed with soda and served by the bottle.
It’s an easy place to while away the time, the floor-to-ceiling glass exterior means lots of natural light, and the striking plant installation is enough to keep your eyes amused. A rotating line-up of international coffee roasters served as filter will keep the coffee-aficionados happy, as well as all the usual Supreme coffee gear to get your fix at home. It won’t be long til everyone wants to join, so grab some friends today and inaugurate yourselves into the South Town Club.
