Located on the main drag of the harbourside township of Lyttelton, Eruption Brewing is a destination for good beer, good food and good vibes.

Located on the main drag of the harbourside township of Lyttelton, Eruption Brewing is a destination for good beer, good food and good vibes. The locally owned and operated microbrewery is fiercely supported by locals and boasts 12 taps of in-house brewed hoppy goodness. The focus is on classics done well – well enough to have received a number of awards, in fact, such as the Best South Island IPA received at the New Zealand Beer Awards in 2023.

Head brewer Scott Calvert leads the team with years of experience. Still, it’s all about a family feel at Eruption, and everyone gets a chance to put their creativity to use. From time to time, you’ll find fruited sours and seasonal beers to tempt your tastebuds. Use of locally grown malts and hops is a given, as is using the highest quality ingredients always.

The brewpub space is warm and inviting with a relaxed retro feel. Formica tables and vintage touches throughout create an atmosphere that is easy to wind down in and enjoy a drink or two with friends and whānau or settle in for the long haul and grab a meal. Needless to say, kids and K9s are most welcome here, too.

On the food side of things, you can expect to find items that go well with the beverage of choice. Burgers, pizza, chips and the like are complimented with Brewer’s Delights – smaller snacks filled with punchy flavours that are well worth a try. The kai created at Eruption really exceeds expectations; the kitchen takes things as seriously as the brewers. Don’t bypass this spot on your hunt for a brilliant brunch either, and yes, it does serve coffee as well.

During the winter months, the space is kept warm and cosy with a log burner. And when the sun is out, the place to be at Eruption is its rooftop beer garden. Offering perhaps the best vistas in all of Ōtautahi, a full harbour view and plenty of sunshine are hard to beat, especially when it’s admired with a cold one in hand.
