JIX Reality creating human-centred tech

From an international student with limited business background to the founder of an award-winning tech studio, JIX Reality’s Sakthi Ranganathan is helping put Christchurch on the map for human-centred immersive technology.

A business driven by a passion for technology

When Sakthi arrived in Christchurch in 2011, the city was rebuilding and was open to new ideas.

“I didn’t come from a business background,” he says. “I’m an accidental entrepreneur driven by a passion for building advanced technology. I had no idea how to run a company.”

Today, he leads JIX Reality, a company creating immersive digital experiences using Extended Reality (XR), Virtual Reality (VR), and other emerging technologies.

JIX is empowering people through immersive tech

Whether it’s developing VR training for Singapore Airlines or building interactive science tools, JIX’s work focuses on making complex information more accessible, engaging, and meaningful – improving outcomes for both organisations and users.

How the Regional Business Partner Network backed growth

Behind that growth is the Regional Business Partners (RBP) Network, delivered in Canterbury by ChristchurchNZ and Business Canterbury, which connects businesses with tailored advice, training and funding.

For Sakthi, that support was transformative.

“Through the RBP programme, I stopped thinking like a solo founder and started thinking like a director. They guided me into leadership with confidence.”

Business Canterbury Chief Executive Leeann Watson says identifying the right support is key. “Often businesses don’t yet know what they need, so connecting them with the right partners is critical.”

Scaling up and staying grounded in Christchurch

With projects across New Zealand and growing interest from Australasia, JIX is now looking offshore – while keeping Christchurch as its home base.

“The Christchurch innovation scene connects us globally, but also grounds us locally,” says Sakthi.

Through it all, the RBP Network has remained a key part of the journey.

“As a founder, you face so many challenges. Having someone backing you gives you the confidence to keep going – and can change the trajectory of your business.”

As ChristchurchNZ CEO Ali Adams puts it, advisors become more than just connectors. “They support businesses through both the good times and the tough moments.”
