Once built, Te Ūaka The Lyttelton Museum will be a state of the art facility, replacing the previous museum which was damaged beyond repair in the earthquakes. Lyttelton's connection with Antarctica extends from its days as the base for historic voyages of early exploration, through Operation Deep Freeze to today; still a key logistics hub for international research programmes. Through its varied collection, Te Ūaka will tell the stories of the many ways the icy continent continues to inspire local, national and international visitors.
