Pōhatu Penguins is a family-run business with a long-standing history of protecting the Korora (Little Penguin) in Pōhatu Bay on the family farm for 30+ years.
Through predator trapping, monitoring, penguin rehabilitation and creating awareness over the years the colony stabilized and grew becoming the largest colony of Little penguins on mainland NZ.
In 2020, The “Helps Pohatu Conservation Trust” was formed to help us increasing conservation work and research projects.
The family and the Pōhatu penguins team continue the conservation efforts which are fully self-funded via Pōhatu Penguins’ tours.
