Christchurch City Council (CCC) has been a proactive supporter of Antarctic programmes since Captain Robert Falcon Scott first visited the city in 1901.  CCC established the Christchurch Antarctic Office and developed the Christchurch Antarctic Gateway Strategy to realise the value of Christchurch’s status as an Antarctic Gateway City.  CCC supports the annual ‘Days of Ice’ Antarctic season opening activation, hosting an annual reception welcoming our international programmes partners, celebrating our city’s Antarctic relationships and connections. The Mayor and councillors actively support all Antarctic related initiatives.
