From international cricket and football to fashion, culture and community celebration, Ōtautahi Christchurch is proud to play host to a series of events celebrating 100 Years of Unity through Sport between New Zealand and India.
In 2026, New Zealand and India mark an important milestone, celebrating 100 years of connection through sport. The relationship began in 1926 when an Indian Army hockey team toured New Zealand for the first time, bringing players and communities together.
Today, that connection extends across communities, cultures and generations, strengthened through a shared passion for sport and the vibrant Indian community that calls New Zealand home.
To mark the centenary, Ōtautahi Christchurch will host a programme of events that bring together sport, culture and community, offering locals and visitors the chance to be part of this historic celebration. It's an opportunity to experience a city that celebrates diversity, welcomes different cultures and values the connections that enrich our communities.

As part of Christchurch Spring Fashion Festival, In Motion is a one-off runway experience inspired by 100 years of sporting connection between New Zealand and India. That connection is brought to life through fashion, movement, music and sporting culture.
Presented by New Zealand Fashion Week in partnership with ChristchurchNZ and Sport New Zealand, the show explores the shared language of sport and fashion: movement.
Through a dynamic series of runway chapters combining fashion, performance, archival storytelling and sound, In Motion will journey from the heritage of a century-long sporting relationship through to the energy, creativity and cultural exchange shaping its future.
Contemporary design, performers and sporting talent will come together in an experience that moves beyond the traditional runway.. From where the story began to where it might go next, In Motion celebrates not only 100 years of connection, but the generations, cultures and creativity that will carry it forward.

Running from 15 to 18 October, Christchurch Spring Fashion Festival will bring four days of runway shows, designer showcases and fashion experiences to the city. The festival provides the backdrop for In Motion and celebrates creativity, innovation and New Zealand fashion

The New Guard – Emerging and contemporary designers curated by NZFW Creative Director Dan Ahwa.
The Spring Edit – A showcase of standout looks from New Zealand Fashion Week from both leading designers and up-and-coming labels including Caitlin Crisp, Kathryn Wilson, Juliette Hogan, Taylor and more.
Breast Cancer Cure's Fashion for a Cure – Making its Christchurch debut, Fashion for a Cure is a special runway showcase supporting Breast Cancer Cure. Featured designers include Trelise Cooper, Kathryn Wilson, Storm and Ruby.

Christchurch is gearing up for an unforgettable spring of cricket as the BLACKCAPS take on India at the iconic Hagley Oval.
The action begins with two thrilling T20 Internationals, promising big hits, electric atmosphere and world-class cricket.
Don't miss this epic showdown. The matches form part of the 100 Years of Unity through Sport celebrations and promise world-class cricket in one of New Zealand's most iconic sporting settings.

History will be made when the All Whites take on India at One New Zealand Stadium.
The match marks the first All Whites fixture at the city's new stadium and forms part of the centenary celebrations.
Supporters will have the opportunity to witness an international football occasion that brings together two nations connected through a century of sporting history.
