It’s Good to Yarn. The Yarns Men host a Christchurch based, men only monthly meetup. A chance to hear a good yarn, share some food and have a few yarns with other guys. No pressure. No expectations.

This month’s speaker: Brandon, Sam and Josh from Summit for Strength. Three average blokes took on a 70km ultra marathon on Everest.

Summit for Strength grew out of an outrageous idea after a couple of beers: take on a 70km ultra marathon on Everest, raise awareness and funds for Movember, and show that strength can look like opening up, checking in on a mate and asking for support when you need it.

Brandon, Sam and Josh will share how the idea turned into months of training, a 10-day trek to the start line and 70km at high altitude, along with the highs, lows, laughs and honest yarns along the way.

This will be a chance to hear what they learnt about being a good mate, resilience, showing up for each other and taking on something that probably sounded easier after a couple of beers.

A real yarn about mates, challenge, strength and showing up.

What’s in it for you:

  • Hear how an outrageous idea turned into a 70km ultra marathon on Everest

  • Hear the highs, lows and stories from the journey

  • Learn what the experience taught Brandon, Sam and Josh about mateship, resilience and showing up

  • Have relaxed one on one yarns with other men

  • Leave with a reminder that opening up, checking in and asking for support are all signs of strength

Disclaimer: The Yarns Men aren't therapists. We're men who care. Our role is to create space for genuine conversations and social connections. Think of our yarns as tips and advice from a mate, a place to explore new ways of engaging in conversations and building social connections. We do not provide clinical guidance. If you need help finding support, reach out to Matthew.
