The Saunders and Co Season of Wicked

You know Oz. You don’t know this story.

Long before Dorothy followed the Yellow Brick Road, two young women met at Shiz University and discovered that friendship can change everything.

Elphaba is intelligent, fiercely independent and born with an extraordinary gift. Galinda is ambitious, popular and determined to get exactly what she wants. They could hardly be more different. Yet an unlikely friendship begins to form between them, setting both women on a journey that will change their lives and the fate of Oz forever.

One will become known as Glinda the Good. The other will be branded the Wicked Witch of the West.

But what if everything you thought you knew about Oz was wrong?

Based on the acclaimed novel by Gregory Maguire, with music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, WICKED explores the untold story behind the most famous characters in Oz. It is a story of friendship, ambition, identity, power and having the courage to see beyond the labels placed upon us.

And then there’s the music.

From the soaring power of Defying Gravity and the infectious Popular to The Wizard and I, Dancing Through Life and the emotional For Good, WICKED is packed with songs that have become part of the musical theatre soundtrack of a generation.

Now, Christchurch audiences have the chance to experience the magic, the music and the mystery of Oz live on stage.

Come for the spectacle. Stay for the story. And discover that there are always two sides to every story.

Don’t just follow the Yellow Brick Road. See where it really leads.
