David has a personal connection to the subject – he is the great nephew Edward Wilson who died alongside Captain Scott on their return from the South Pole.

David is a highly regarded polar historian. His books include:

  • Cheltenham in Antarctica: The Life of Edward Wilson
  • Discovery Illustrated: Pictures from Captain Scott's First Antarctic Expedition
  • Edward Wilson’s Antarctic Notebooks
  • Edward Wilson’s Nature Notebooks
  • Nimrod Illustrated: Pictures from Lieutenant Shackleton’s British Antarctic Expedition
  • The Lost Photographs of Captain Scott
  • David is briefly visiting New Zealand; this is a rare opportunity to meet him in person and hear about the finds from his fascinating and dedicated research.

This event is co-hosted by Canterbury Museum and Te Ūaka The Lyttelton Museum.
