The Lone Star/Joes Garage Canterbury Rally has been a staple of New Zealand motorsport for over 50 years. Run mostly in the Ashley Forest and on North Canterbury’s public roads, the event has attracted the best in New Zealand for generations.
The 2026 edition is round two of the New Zealand Rally Championship and the Subaru H6 Cup plus round three of the Mainland Rally Series (the south island championship). Our front-runners will be in purpose built cars worth over $500,000 NZD. Alongside one of the first Porsche 911 GT3 rallycars in the world, some classic kiwi homebuilt specials and drivers ranging from 17 to 70 years old.
With the inclusion of Supercars now in Christchurch, it’s now one of four major motorsport events in the region. But this is the only completely free one.
