Explore the engineering stories behind some of Ōtautahi Christchurch’s most significant heritage buildings and structures on this guided central-city walking tour. Led by engineers with first-hand knowledge of selected projects, the walk will look at how these places have been repaired, strengthened, adapted and preserved following the Canterbury earthquakes.
Over approximately two hours, engineers will lead small groups through the central city, stopping at a range of heritage buildings, monuments and structures to discuss their history, structural systems, earthquake damage, strengthening and repair. At selected sites, engineers directly involved in the projects will share insights into the challenges, decisions and solutions behind conserving significant places while making them safe and useful for the future.
The route takes in a broad cross-section of Christchurch’s built heritage, including sites around the Arts Centre, Cathedral Square, Bridge of Remembrance and Canterbury Provincial Council Buildings.
