Find out how it is providing opportunities for people in our community to connect through working together, teaching and learning garden skills, and cooking seasonal kai.

All attendees are offered the opportunity to sow a 6-pack punnet of seeds of their choice to take home.

The idea for the Mairehau Neighbourhood Garden was conceived around early 2021 when our staff at Neighbourhood Trust pondered what families in the Mairehau and St Albans area would do if our funding for kai support ever dried up. We wanted a place where people could learn skills to take control of their own food production and security.

The land for the garden was made available by St Albans Baptist Church. Mairehau Neighbourhood Garden provides a place for recreation and leisure through opportunities to volunteer in the garden; to attend workshops that share gardening knowledge and skills; and to simply sit and enjoy the garden environment on the seating that was built as part of the overall garden design.
