Terrace Station Historic Homestead and Garden

This is one of New Zealand's most important heritage properties. The extensive garden with towering trees and a wide range of plants provide year-round interest. The property also has restored buildings, museum rooms and artifacts from the 1860s.

Terrace Station Historic Homestead and Garden

Terrace Station, just 50 minutes drive from Christchurch is a hidden gem that will delight all members of the family. The woodland garden was first designed in the 1860s and has garden rooms with huge established trees, shrubs and perennials that change throughout the seasons. The New Zealand Gardens Trust has endorsed this garden with the first ‘Collection’ membership listing, acknowledging the variety of trees within and around the property. The homestead is recognised by Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga as a Category 1 Building, an excellent example of a farm cottage first built in the 1850s that was extended and changed to meet the needs of the family. There are museum rooms in the homestead and restored farm buildings to explore.
