Located near the Port Hills in Christchurch, Rudolf Steiner School provides a nurturing educational environment for students. Based on the Waldorf philosophy of bringing a balanced approach to education and working alongside the stages of a child’s development, we provide an approach to support curiosity, build resilience and inspire a lifelong love of learning.
From a roll of 2 students in 1975, Christchurch Rudolf Steiner has grown to a school roll of around 350 pupils from kindergarten to year 13.
The school became a fully state-funded integrated school in 1989 and balances a Steiner curriculum with all the achievement objectives of the New Zealand Curriculum Framework.
Located in Ōpāwa near the Port Hills, Steiner and it’s philosophy provides a unique educational opportunity that is reflected in educating students around a balance of cognitive knowledge (Head), creative feeling (Heart) and experiential learning (Hand) that engages every area of their lives.
We have a high emphasis around creativity, the arts and music, with the focus of stirring imagination, building relational empathy, and embracing a student’s uniqueness.
Although Steiner schools have a European cultural heritage, we actively engage in Te Ao Maori, including Te Reo and tikanga in Aotearoa/New Zealand, and are open to other cultures coming our way, especially in the high school space.
We aim to support students become independent in their life purpose and direction, creative and free in their thinking, balanced in their feelings, practical and purposeful in their will.
