Catholic Cathedral College warmly welcomes international students and strives to create a family-like atmosphere for those joining us, whether for a short-term experience or a longer stay. As a high-achieving co-educational secondary school, we are proud to offer a supportive and inclusive environment where every student is valued and encouraged to thrive.
Our dedicated team of staff provides expert care for the academic, emotional, and social wellbeing of international students. Catholic Cathedral College offers a wide range of subjects and students are supported to follow personalised programmes that reflect their strengths and interests. Our NCEA qualifications are recognised both nationally and internationally.
With strong careers guidance and mentoring leading to university, tertiary study, or career training possibilities, students are well-prepared to step confidently into life beyond school. English language support and curriculum assistance are available at every year level, ensuring students can confidently engage in their learning. To help ease the transition, each international student is paired with a buddy who offers guidance and friendship as they settle into College life.
We encourage all students to get involved in extra-curricular activities (programmes outside regular classroom learning), which help build friendships, confidence, and new skills. These include sports, music, cultural groups, leadership opportunities, and service projects. Students also enjoy education outside the classroom experiences such as trekking, camping, and overnight trips, which allow them to explore New Zealand’s beautiful outdoors while learning teamwork and resilience.
Being centrally located in Christchurch city, our students benefit from easy access to a range of educational and cultural resources. Just a short walk away is Tūranga, the city’s award-winning central library, along with vibrant gathering spaces like Riverside Market, Little High Eatery, and the Christchurch Art Gallery.
These areas offer a mix of funky food spots, creative hubs, and social spaces where students can relax, connect, and enjoy the heart of the city.
Homestay is offered through Canterbury Homestay.
