A Creative Emotional Development Workshop for Children
from The Emotional Intelligence Lab
A creative, play-based workshop supporting emotional awareness, confidence, and resilience in children.
This is not an art class.
It’s a space where children learn to understand themselves —
through creativity, exploration and gently guided emotional-development.
Some children feel deeply.
Some get overwhelmed.
Some struggle to express what’s going on inside.
Some would simply benefit from building further confidence, resilience, and emotional awareness.
This workshop meets children exactly where they are.
Through creative exploration and playful, guided activities, children are gently supported to:
• understand their emotions
• regulate their nervous system
• express themselves safely
• build confidence and self-trust
• navigate challenges with more ease
WHAT WE’LL BE EXPLORING
Inside this workshop is a mix of:
• creative exploration (art, building, problem solving, movement, play)
• simple emotional awareness tools
• guided activities that build resilience
• connection and shared experience through group work
No pressure. No performance.
Just space to explore, express, and grow.
The emotional learning is woven through playful experiments and creative tasks - so for the children it will just feel like a creative, experimental and playful environment.
WHO THIS IS FOR
Children aged 6–10
Especially supportive for:
• sensitive or big-feeling children
• children with a neurodivergent ability or particular with sensory processing
• children who struggle with frustration or overwhelm
• children building confidence in social settings
• children who would benefit from emotional skill-building
Also beautiful for children who are simply curious, creative, and love to explore.

There are two dates, times and locations available these school holidays to offer flexibility for family's.

Our full time Home-Based Studio Space (where Emotional Intelligence Lab weekly sessions run from) - Shirley, Christchurch 8061.

Thursday 16th April 2026 - 9.30am - 12.30pm

The Arts Centre Te Matatiki Toi Ora

The Makers Workshop room - is situated in the old School of Art building on the corner of Rolleston Avenue and Hereford Street.

All materials included and creations are to take home.
Please make sure children come with any snacks, water and clothes that are appropriate to create and get crafty in.
