Did you know that even emerging bands that have just started gigging can still make royalties from playing small gigs at local grassroots venues like Darkroom?
Darkroom's Free Artist Development Series is back and our guest speaker for this month is Mike Hall, the NZ Director of Member Services for APRA. Mike will let us know what APRA is and what they do for musicians. Then if anyone wants to sign up on the night, Mike and our Darkroom staff will be on hand to help you navigate the online registration process!
Wednesday May 13th at Darkroom, 336 St Asaph St
7pm doors, talk starts 7:30pm
OH, AND THERE WILL BE FREE SNACKS!
The Australasian Performing Rights Association (APRA), is a society owned by its members (as in us, musicians based in NZ, Aussie and the Pacific!) It's free to join, and by joining up you can make extra money from your gigs!
APRA's free services are available to all musicians in Australasia, regardless of genre, experience, ability level, or the size of shows we play. APRA look after collecting and paying royalties for when music is performed or broadcast to the public. By signing up as a member of APRA, registering our songs, and uploading "performance reports" (letting them know when and where we played a gig, and what songs we played) we end up making some extra, pretty passive income.
Bring a digital device like a laptop or tablet to use to sign up (or borrow one of ours) and get started with APRA on the night!
Join us on Wednesday May 13th from 7pm. There will be free snacks! Plus the bar will be open if you want to buy a drink.
These sessions are super informal and friendly, and a great opportunity to meet new folks in the creative arts community. Keen folks from the music community of any ability or experience level are welcome to come along, but under 18s must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian due to this event being held on a licensed premises.
This seminar is made possible thanks to the support of APRA, and River Heights Trust
