Must-visit hot spots to check out when you're feeling a little thirsty or peckish.
Four seaside hotspots to sip and dine at
Ōtautahi Christchurch has a coastal gem in its crown that locals love and many are yet to discover. New Brighton is a place with a unique history and a diverse natural playground with passionate small businesses at its beating heart.
If you’re looking for ways to fill a lazy afternoon or searching for a new date night spot, check out our wrap-up of must-visit spots in this eclectic seaside suburb.

Fresh pours at Southpaw
You may recognise the name from its brewery in Hornby, but Southpaw Brewing has always had its roots in New Brighton, where its new location is opening soon (keep an eye out on their socials to stay up to date!)
Inspired by beer tasted during travels through America, local couple Cam and Penny are thrilled to soon bring their brewery home to their much-loved suburb by the sea.
The brewery tap-room and cellar door will be the perfect spot to grab a pre-dinner pint or settle in for a sunny afternoon enjoying the variety of American-style beer on offer, each brewed with the best local ingredients.
One thing is for sure — at Southpaw, you can always count on delicious brews, passionate people and seriously good vibes.
Settle in at Brighton Beach House
Warm and welcoming is how regulars would describe Brighton Beach House, the seaside cafe and restaurant that serves up delicious food in a relaxed environment.
Whether you are looking to start your day with coffee and breakfast or winding down with a wine and hearty meal, the friendly team at Brighton Beach House will look after you.
In true New Brighton fashion, there is always something on the calendar, from quiz nights to exciting collab pop-ups. If you are looking for the ultimate treat for your loved one (or yourself), keep an eye out for The Collective Series. Running once a month, you’ll enjoy a carefully curated seven-course dinner matched with five drinks. Now that is a serious treat!

Sunrise soak and breakfast at Saturdays
The old saying goes, ‘win the morning, win the day,’ and a sunrise soak at He Puna Taimoana is a sure way to win the day! One of our city’s unique and luxurious experiences — watch as the first golden rays appear over the horizon, lighting up the beach in a warm sunny hue.
The session includes a two-hour soak in the pools where you can relax your mind and muscles, a complimentary mocktail and optional guided meditation. Perfect for a special occasion, a well-deserved treat or a wonderful gift, designed to leave you relaxed and refreshed.
Once you’re done, why not extend your pampering and head over to the onsite cafe Saturdays to enjoy a warming coffee and delicious breakfast? The seasonal menu not only focuses on flavour but creative combinations and beautiful colour — you can definitely expect your meal to look as good as it tastes!
Chanayka South Indian Cuisine
Dinner on your mind and looking for something delicious, warming and packed full of flavour?
Located on Hawke Street, Chanayka is a popular local spot serving up flavourful South Indian cuisine in the heart of New Brighton. With a focus on quality, authentic dishes, created by their head chef with 15 years of experience in Indian cuisine, you will be well looked after when dining at Chanakya.
Book a table inside the quiet and cosy restaurant or grab a takeaway to enjoy on the beach as the sun sets and waves peacefully crash on the shore.
