Rolleston College

Rolleston College is a future focused and inclusive Decile 10 co-educational state high school in Rolleston community. Our aim is to provide a high quality education that focuses on excellence and allows each and every learner to stand and succeed as who they are and develop the confidence to be the very best that they can be.

The Rolleston College Curriculum framework is designed to provide a wide range of personalised and collaborative learning experiences ensuring coverage of all aspects of the New Zealand Curriculum. They have the combined aim of providing pathways to enable learners to develop the competencies they need for lifelong learning, success, self-confidence and joy.

They are designed to ensure that they provide the opportunity to develop not only content, but also the critical skills necessary to appropriately use that knowledge independently.

The school day is divided into three basic learning periods that provide learners with opportunities to have a number of learning experiences appropriate to their needs.

Junior School Learning Vehicles (Year 9 and Year 10)

Ako Learning (AL)

This is where learners meet with their learning coach to monitor their progress, develop their personalised (Inquiry) programme and develop their individual literacy and numeracy programme as well as their health and wellbeing programme.

Connection Learning (CL)

Connection learning is a multi-disciplinary approach to skill and knowledge development. It is delivered in a collaborative environment with opportunities for individual and small group work.

The content is appropriate to the context and the focus is on delivering not only knowledge but also skill and disposition development in a learning environment that is authentic and flexible.

Selected Learning (SL)

Selected learning is where learners can choose from a rotating menu of Technology, Arts, Language and Enrichment options. It is also where the Physical Education and Health programme will focus on involvement and movement and the development of the well-being of all learners.

Senior School Learning Vehicles

In the senior years learners will continue their journey in advanced learning environments that will prepare learners for academic success and achievement.

The Rolleston College Curriculum aims at enabling learners to gain an idea of their passions and purpose in life. Learners will work towards attaining NZQA certified qualifications (NCEA).

Ako Learning (AL)

This is where learners:

  • Continue to develop their skills and competencies with their learning advisor.
  • Work on deeper personal inquiry projects.

Connected Learning (CL)

In Year 11 this vehicle becomes more refined and is delivered in blends of two core subjects (English, Science, Maths, Social Sciences).

Selected Learning (SL)

In Year 11 this vehicle offers a range of specialist subjects including extension options.

In Year 12 and 13 as the learning becomes more specialised, the number of selected options increases as learners prepare for life beyond school.

There is also the possibility for flexibility between these three environments depending on individual learner needs.

Excellence

Excellence is a key word in all aspects of life at Rolleston College.
We aim for academic excellence.
We aim for excellence in all of our co-curricular activities.
We aim for excellence in how all members of the school community present and conduct themselves.

A brand new second campus is expected to be built and open in 2025. By then Rolleston College will be the biggest and sole high school with two campuses in Christchurch with the most modern and latest technological facilities. Our students will have more opportunities to approach STEM education.
