The centre is a hub for diverse creative expression. Its small creative team partners with others to offer festivals, performances and installations. The centre is also home to several independent galleries, museums and cinemas.
Visitors can enjoy quality food, drink, entertainment and shopping experiences, and wander freely around the grounds or join a guided tour. You can even stay onsite at the boutique Observatory Hotel.
Venues are available for hire for conferences, meetings and private functions. The magnificent Great Hall and cloisters provide a particularly photogenic wedding backdrop.
A range of local and national creative enterprises and tech startups rent offices in the precinct. Dedicated space for health technology companies enables them to collaborate with each other and with the arts sector.
There are varied learning opportunities available, from children’s dance classes to social painting, resourceful skills to perfume design. The University of Canterbury’s music and classical studies departments have a presence on site.
