Christchurch launches new campaign to lead business events sector

Christchurch has launched a new Business Events Strategy and marketing campaign to strengthen its position as a leading destination for business events, showcasing a city designed for connection, innovation and exceptional delegate experiences.

The Business Event Data Report 2025 by Fresh Info  indicates Christchurch’s share of New Zealand’s multi-day business events market has grown significantly, rising from 9.8 percent in 2021 to 18.7 percent in 2025. The industry contributes an estimated $175 million annually to the Christchurch economy.

Why has Christchurch launched the Made For It business events campaign?

ChristchurchNZ Business Events Manager Bree Jones says the Made for it campaign reinforces Christchurch as a city purpose-built for business events, underpinned by major infrastructure including Te Pae Christchurch Convention Centre, the restored Christchurch Town Hall, the recently opened One New Zealand Stadium and new central city hospitality.

“Christchurch has evolved into one of the most modern, connected and experience-rich business events destinations in the Southern Hemisphere. We now have a highly walkable city with world-class infrastructure,  growing international connectivity and access to extraordinary experiences all within close reach. Christchurch is entering a new era of opportunity,  and this campaign is about confidently taking that story to market."

The campaign targets business event organisers, conference thought-leadership and decision-makers as well as incentive planners and event producers across New Zealand and Australia through a mix of trade media, digital activity, outdoor advertising and industry engagement.

What makes Christchurch a standout destination for business events?

“The city’s competitive advantage lies not only in its infrastructure, but in the ease and quality of the delegate experience,” says Ross Steele, General Manager of Te Pae Christchurch.

“In Christchurch, everything is connected. Te Pae Christchurch is only 20 minutes from the airport, and within the central city delegates will find a walkable, accessible destination rich in attractions, open green spaces and surprises - from street art to local history - at every corner. Delegates can move seamlessly between hotels, conference sessions, dining, and networking. Beyond the city, the stunning landscapes from mountains to sea, and uniquely South Island experiences are all within easy reach - an offering few destinations can match,” says Steele.

The Made  For Business Events campaign also aligns with ChristchurchNZ’s  wider  Business Events Strategy 2026–2029 announced in April, which positions business events as a driver of economic growth, knowledge exchange  and city profile.
