Tekapo Star Gazing combines the wonder of the Aoraki Mackenzie International Dark Sky Reserve with the relaxing warmth of Tekapo Springs’ hot pools. This 90-minute guided experience connects you with the night sky through high-powered telescopes and soothing starlit soaking in the hot pools. Our expert guides share fascinating insights, constellations, and celestial stories: blending astronomy, local legends, and Māori mythology. When the weather doesn’t allow for telescope viewing, guests enjoy an immersive indoor Virtual Reality journey through the universe instead. Whether you’re exploring the cosmos above or floating among the stars in the pools, it’s an unforgettable way to experience Tekapo’s night sky.

Conditions
No children under 6 years of age are allowed on tours. Full payment will be required at the time of your booking whether in person or online. Tekapo Star Gazing asks you to understand that we are unable to guarantee full clarity, perfect skies, and visibility of certain objects in the night sky. The tours will operate every night regardless of weather. We have indoor presentation options using virtual reality, followed by the same hot pools session regardless of weather conditions.
Cancellation Policy
Tekapo Star Gazing may cancel tours at staff discretion due to extreme weather (e.g. lightning or heavy snow), with full refunds issued. In cloudy conditions, a Virtual Reality tour is offered instead, no refunds apply. Economy: non-refundable and not changeable. Premium: changes/refunds up to 3 hrs prior. Premium Plus: fully refundable/changeable up to tour start.
