Research prize draw 2025

Led by Professor Carmel Foley from University of Technology Sydney, this New Zealand based project gathers evidence-based information to quantify the value of hosting conferences. With a focus on conferences held in Christchurch, Auckland, Wellington and other New Zealand cities, the insights gained will play a pivotal role in shaping future strategies and advancing the understanding of business events' legacy impacts from a unique Aotearoa New Zealand perspective.

If you attended one of the conferences that is part of the Conference Legacy Project in Auckland, Wellington, or Christchurch between 1 March 2024 and 31 December 2025 (please visit The Conference Legacy Project) and completed the Conference Legacy Project survey, you might be eligible to gain one entry to the research prize draw (you will not gain any subsequent entries after the first eligible conference you attend and survey you complete) to go in the draw with a chance to win the prize for you and a travel companion. Entry into this prize draw and acceptance of the prize is governed by the terms and conditions set out below:

Aotearoa New Zealand experience

  • Flights, Accommodation and Activities included to one of three NZ cities of the Winner’s choice (Christchurch, Auckland, Wellington), including:
  • Return economy flights for two
  • 5 x nights’ accommodation for two (including breakfast)
  • A city experience package of activities for two, in the chosen city, up to the value of NZD$500.

The Winner is responsible for paying all his/her costs associated with the Prize that are not explicitly stated in the terms to be covered by the Providers, including (where applicable) additional meals, spending money, passports, visas, travel insurance, and all other incidentals.

Terms & Conditions

  1. The promoter of the promotion named: ‘The Conference Legacy Project – Research prize draw’ (‘Promotion’) is ChristchurchNZ, Level 3, 101 Cashel Street, Christchurch, 8011, New Zealand. The prize is provided by ChristchurchNZ as the promoter, Tourism New Zealand and the applicable city partner organisation (either ChristchurchNZ, Tātaki Auckland Unlimited or WellingtonNZ, referred to in these Terms and Conditions as ‘City Partner Organisation’) (collectively ‘Providers’). These Terms and Conditions apply to the Promotion, each entrant, and any person accompanying the winner (‘Participants’ or ‘you’).
  2. To be eligible Participants must have:
    1. attended an eligible conference participating in The Conference Legacy Project in Auckland, Welington, or Christchurch;
    2. responded in full to a Conference Legacy Project survey conducted by the University of Technology Sydney;
    3. and opted-in to the survey prize draw and provided full contact details as required at the time of entry.
  3. Additionally, the Promotion is only open to Participants who are aged 18 years or older and eligible to travel to New Zealand between 26 January 2026 and 31 January 2027 (‘Prize Period’). To be eligible to win a prize, each Participant must also be eligible to travel to New Zealand within the Prize Period.
  4. Employees of Providers, third party suppliers of the prizes, and their close relatives and anyone otherwise connected with the Providers of the Prize Draw are not eligible to enter.
  5. One Participant (‘Winner’) will be drawn by ChristchurchNZ at random on Monday 26 January 2026 from eligible entries (‘Prize Draw’).
  6. Entries Open at 12am Monday 3 February 2025 and close 11.59pm 31 December 2025.
  7. The Winner will be notified by email and/or phone within 24hrs of the Prize Draw on Monday 26 January 2026.
  8. There is no entry fee to enter this Promotion.
  9. Only one entry per Participant, regardless of the number of eligible conferences attended or surveys completed.
  10. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Providers accept no responsibility for Promotion entries not received for whatever reason.
  11. If the Winner cannot be contacted by ChristchurchNZ within 5 working days of the Prize Draw, is or becomes ineligible to be the Winner prior to their redemption of the prize, ChristchurchNZ reserves the right to re-select a replacement winner.
  12. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Providers reserve the right to cancel or amend the prize package, including the prizes, and these Terms and Conditions without notice because of circumstances outside of Providers’ control. Any changes to the Prize Draw will be notified via relevant Competition Posts as soon as possible by ChristchurchNZ.
  13. The prize is as stated, and no cash or other alternatives will be offered. Prizes are not transferable, substitutable, and cannot be exchanged or redeemed for further vouchers or cash, and cannot be used in conjunction with any other discount, couple, or offer, unless specified otherwise.
  14. The prize is only redeemable within the Prize Period in accordance with clause 3
  15. Any and all costs incurred by Participants in connection with participating in the Promotion, including travel and participation costs associated with an eligible conference and costs associated with redeeming or benefiting form the prize(s) such as airport transfers within home country, transport, food & beverage, accommodation or any other costs or charges which are not explicitly stated in these Terms and Conditions remain at the sole cost and responsibility of the Participants.
  16. ChristchurchNZ reserves the right to disqualify any entry or refuse to award a prize where false or misleading details have been given or where a Participant has behaved in a fraudulent or dishonest manner or otherwise than in accordance with these Terms and Conditions.   
  17. ChristchurchNZ’s decision in respect of all matters to do with the Promotion will be final.
  18. To the full extent permitted by law, Providers will not be responsible or liable for any claim, loss (including, without limitation, direct, indirect, special, or consequential loss, or loss of profits), cost, expense, damage, proceeding, liability, illness or personal injury, or death which is caused to, or incurred, suffered, or sustained (whether or not arising from any person’s negligence) by, any Participant as a result of in connection with the Promotion or by reason of the utilisation or application of any prize won in the Promotion.
  19. To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Providers disclaim all guarantees, warranties, and representations of any kind (whether express, implied or statutory) in respect of the Promotion and the prize. Each Participant agrees to the use of his/her name and image and/or other personal information included in details of their entry for the Providers to conduct the Promotion and facilitate the awarding of the prize, for promotional, marketing, publicity, research and analytics purposes. Any personal information relating to Participants will be used solely in accordance with current New Zealand data protection legislation and may be disclosed to third parties, including but not limited to agents, contractors, service providers, prize suppliers and, as required, to the applicable regulatory authority. If you don’t provide the personal information required for your participation in the Promotion, you will be ineligible to win a prize. As the Promotion is being run in conjunction with other Providers, the privacy policy of each applicable Provider will also apply. By entering this Promotion, Participants authorise the use of their personal information for the purposes described in those privacy policies and these terms and conditions, and they also agree to their terms.   20. By accepting the prize, Participants agree to their names being published and to be photographed, filmed and/or interviewed by the Providers and may use their names and such photographs, videos and/or interviews for publicity purposes. To the extent a Participant does not agree to their name being published and to be photographed, filmed and/or interviewed by the Providers for these publicity purposes, Participants must notify the Providers that they disagree with this collection, use and disclosure of their personal information, and Providers will subsequently take steps to accommodate that Participant’s request.
  21. If for any reason the prize cannot be accepted due to visa eligibility or government travel restrictions, then the prize will be cancelled if alternative travel arrangements cannot be made.
  22. Providers are not responsible or liable for any tax implications that may arise from winning the prize. Please seek professional advice if you have any questions regarding the tax implications of the prize.
  23. All prizes are governed by and subject to the terms and conditions between the Participant and relevant supplier that is applicable to the relevant prize element.
  24. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Providers and specific prize suppliers can change prizes at their discretion and will endeavour to change prizes with suppliers to equal or greater value if it cannot be fulfilled.
  25. The flights component of the prize will be funded by Tourism New Zealand, including 2 x return economy flights (for the Participants):
    1. during the Prize Period;
    2. from an approved international airport in the Winners home country;
    3. to one of the named New Zealand cities chosen by the Winner;
    4. and up to the value not exceeding NZD$15,000 incl. GST
  26. Accommodation for 5 x nights with breakfast included package as detailed in the city experience package above, are the responsibility of, and are provided at the discretion of the City Partner Organisation.
  27. Activities are provided as described in the city experience package above, and are provided at the discretion of the City Partner Organisation.
  28. Failure by the Providers to enforce any of their rights at any stage does not constitute a waiver of those rights. This Promotion and the prize is subject to New Zealand law, and all Participants submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the New Zealand courts.
  29. By participating in the Promotion, Participants consent (to the extent required under the New Zealand Unsolicited Electronic Messages Act 2007 or its relevant equivalent in other applicable jurisdictions) to the Providers sending the Participant, and any entity the Participant represents, commercial electronic messages.
