The braided Waimakariri river is the heart of the Waimakariri district, connecting the mountains with the sea.
Begin your journey in the new town of Pegasus, with sailboats, kayaks and stand up paddle boards for hire, enjoy some family fun out on the lake. Pegasus is also home to a 18 hole 72 par golf course, the pristine greens are perfect for a round with friends. If you're after an adrenaline packed adventure then check out Jet Thrills a bit further down the road for an exhilarating jet boat ride on the lower Waimak River. At lunchtime be sure to head to Oxford. Oxford is home to several good cafes and the Sheffield Pie House and Bakery, so no one will leave town hungry. Oxford Forest is nearby to work off the excess calories. There are a variety of walks to choose from. Try a walk to Ryde Falls through native bush or for something more strenuous, climb up to Mt Oxford and be rewarded with beautiful views from the top.
