Te Pae Christchurch Bolsters Business Development Ranks

Te Pae Christchurch Convention Centre has further strengthened its business development team, finalising the appointment of two new Business Development Managers.

The venue has attracted a high calibre of applications during its pre-opening period, with people keen to be involved in the regeneration of Christchurch and drawn to the opportunities offered by venue operator ASM Global’s global meets local approach.

Joining Director of Business Development Gillian Officer and Business Development Manager (New Zealand) Hayley McKay, who has been involved with Te Pae Christchurch since 2016 in a project management capacity, are Business Development Managers (Australia) Angela King and Mel Wong.

Returning to Christchurch from Queenstown, where she was the Executive Assistant Manager at Novotel Lakeside, King has 20 years’ experience in hotels, including conference and incentive management for large hotel chains in Australia and New Zealand.

Working alongside King in the Australian market will be Wong, who joins Te Pae Christchurch from Christchurch International Airport, where she was Trade Development Manager. Wong has more than 20 years’ experience in the wider tourism industry, having started her career with Air New Zealand and Tourism New Zealand.

The pair will be working closely with clients in Australia and look forward to meeting with industry professionals at update events planned for Melbourne and Sydney in early December.

Officer said the quality of applicants for the business development roles was testament to the Te Pae Christchurch project, and the career development opportunities available through ASM Global’s international network.

The team we are building in the business development area of Te Pae Christchurch come from many backgrounds and disciplines but have proven themselves as experts in their fields.

“All have demonstrated a commitment to making a difference to the regeneration of the city through the work done by Te Pae Christchurch,” Officer said.

“I have no doubt they will deliver a great result for Te Pae Christchurch and for the city of Christchurch as we work towards our opening in October 2020.”
