This light-filled corner shop is the first fine patisserie shop in Christchurch.
Sisters Taina and Rea have always shared a passion for fine patisseries. A long-term dream of opening their own little shop specialising in the delicate treats became a reality in 2018, when the perfect spot for Sweet Soul Patisserie came up within the laneways of The Guthrey Centre. The light-filled corner shop is the first fine patisserie shop in Christchurch.
Serving quality French style desserts with a Kiwi twist and excellent coffee, the cabinet at Sweet Soul Patisserie is filled with the most beautiful petit cakes you ever did see. They are each carefully handcrafted in the kitchen on-site (which you can soon take a peek at through the window next to the Ballantynes entrance) by traditionally trained pâtissière Rea and her team. Expect to find a range of delicacies to choose from, including gluten and dairy free options.
The pastries are made with 100% natural ingredients, with no added nasties or colours, and most of the produce used to create these pieces of art is also local, natural and organic. Everything is made fresh each morning in limited numbers to eliminate waste. The entirety of each cake is also edible, including flowers or edible gold used for decoration. Inside each pastry you’ll find different layers of textures and colours, they are not overly sweet but filled with punchy flavours that will give your tastebuds the ride of a lifetime.
It’s near impossible to pass by this elegant shop without stepping inside and taking a peep at the impressive treats on offer. Taina and her front of house team will immediately make you feel welcome. Sit out in front of the shop on a sunny day, sip a perfect coffee and dig a golden cake fork into one of Sweet Soul’s beauties and you may as well be sitting on a street corner in Paris.
