Christchurch's Pretty Good Pizza takes the best of Italian and New York styles to create an intimate date spot and pretty darn good pizza.
Picture this… an old-school cozy Italian pizza restaurant, but make it modern and set it in Christchurch's Riverside Market.
That’s exactly what you get with Pretty Good Pizza, honouring the nostalgia of a traditional pizzeria whilst also embracing a contemporary spin. The name says it all really, and owners Mitchell Ryder and Sam Smith began with one simple purpose, to serve up pretty darn good pizza, day and night. They have been strongly influenced by pizza’s classic Italian roots and the New York approach.
With both laneway and market entries, this intimate restaurant setting is the ultimate date spot, the dim lighting, rich forest green walls and interior decor adding to the romanticism. There are thoughtful details everywhere, from the framed prints on the wall celebrating Italian restaurants of bygone eras, to Monstera and Men plant life and the most traditional of cutlery vessels… recycled cans of tomatoes.
Only the best in local produce and imported Italian ingredients are used in the making of these pizzas. There’s the by-the-slice option, a classic Manhattan move and makes for a great on-the-run lunch option for anyone working nearby. Then there are the 12” and 18” Italian pies which are perfect if you’re dining in, pair with a glass (or bottle) of North Canterbury wine and you’ve got yourself a delightful meal. Rumour has it that Italian desserts might be making an appearance in the near future too.
Watch this space for late late nights… what could be better than heading home from a night out than stopping off for a slice of Pretty Good Pizza!
