Hagley Oval Is LIT

Lights. Cricket. Action. It’s game on at Ōtautahi Christchurch’s Hagley Oval now that we’ve got six lighting towers around our beloved cricket ground. Have you seen them yet? They’re epic.

The lights were turned on for the first time in December 2020, with the first official match played under them a double-header showdown – Canterbury Magicians vs Central Hinds, and Canterbury Kings vs Central Stags – on January 10 2021.

Before that it had been almost 10 years since the city hosted a match under permanent lights, an ODI between the BLACKCAPS and Pakistan at AMI Stadium.

As a born-and-bred Cantabrian, it’s fantastic to see the Hagley Oval lights up and running. To play in a World Cup at our own stomping ground here in Christchurch, under lights, will be a real career highlight."

Under lights, Hagley Oval has asserted itself as a ground of significance on the international cricket circuit, able to host day/night matches suited to broadcast into key overseas markets like India and the UK.

Get set for the city and its star cricketing venue to be well and truly on show.
