If you’re stuck for inspiration for your next adventure, a Christchurch entrepreneur has developed an innovative mobile application that’s taking the city by storm.
Romer, dubbed the “Tinder for Activities”, is a social curated and crowdsourced app which helps match users to crowdsources experiences and share these with their friends and family.
The free app lets users pick a category and swipe left or right to explore specific activities, from checking out a funky café or eatery to going on a newly-discovered walk – taking the stress out of arranging plans and activities with friends and family.
Christchurch entrepreneur Emily Heazlewood set up Romer to encourage people to explore their own backyards by crowdsourcing and sharing their favourite experiences, so others can enjoy these too.
“I wanted to create a platform that gets people out there doing stuff with each other and encourages them to discover new things,” Heazlewood says.
“We are also all about people uploading their must-try suggestions for others to experience, so you don’t have to just hear your friends’ suggestions.”
Designed for visitors and locals alike, Romer users can check out experiences and activities that come personally recommended by other likeminded adventurers.
For businesses, it’s an ideal way to connect with highly engaged new customers via Romer’s pay-as-you-go marketing tool and encourage people to stay, play and explore their own backyards.
Christchurch businesses, including the ChristchurchNZ i-Site team, are eagerly partnering with Romer to showcase their latest and greatest attractions and offerings to a new generation of explorers.
Heazlewood developed Romer with assistance from Christchurch-based Smudge Apps and support of the Vodafone Xone Lab, an open plan office space in central Christchurch for young entrepreneurs. She’s now working with the city’s economic development agency ChristchurchNZ to further take over the world, so visitors and locals can reap the benefits.
Since launching in November 2017, Romer has hit the hands and hearts of thousands of locals and tourists throughout New Zealand and Australia.
