A Half Day Of Family Fun In Canterbury

How To Spend Half A Day Exploring Christchurch

A Jam-Packed Itinerary For Families

If you are looking to fill half a day in Christchurch with family-friendly fun, this itinerary is just for you. With the kids in tow, sometimes finding the right kind of entertainment in a city can be difficult. Well, not in Christchurch, from indoor arcades to outdoor thrills, it’s all right here and waiting. Mix and match activities to suit your schedule and preferences and remember, there may be travel time between locations you need to factor in.

Thrills On The Water

Starting the day with a little adventure, head over to the beautiful Lyttleton Harbour for a morning of adrenaline fuelled fun. Jet Junkies offer on the water activities for the whole family, including their popular Jet Ski Tours.

Cruise through caves and around the peninsular, and soak in all the beautiful harbour sights up close. The stunning scenery and views are nearly the best part, second only to the thrill of it all. Tours are 1 hour, and there are also kayak, paddle board and jet pack options available. Pick your thrill level and let the expert team take care of the rest!

Fancy A Zip Line?

The adventure doesn’t have to stop there… and it won’t! Christchurch’s Adventure Park is your second stop of the day, and a true treasure trove for thrill seekers and nature lovers. The park options include ziplining, mountain biking, walking, and sightseeing, so you can tailor your experience to suit your families ages and abilities.

For more relaxed options, take the chair lift to the top and zipline down, or simply walk up to see the views and have a coffee at the Adventure Park Café nestled in the Pine Forest. For the thrill seekers, race through the valley on the dual zipline tour or zoom down the many mountain bike trails. The adventure is yours for the making!

It Must Be Lunchtime

A morning of adventure is sure to work up an appetite, so when stomachs start growling, you know what to do. Little High Eatery is perfectly located in the central city and offers a large space with great indoor and outdoor seating for groups. This foodie haven is the ideal place to take the whole family, as there are options galore. Indulge in a hearty home-made burger, cheesy woodfire pizza, delicious dumplings, or mouth-watering fried chicken. There is something for all appetites, ages, and fussy eaters!

Hang Out With Cute Animals

It’s been a big morning of adrenaline, and it’s time to slow down the pace a little. For kids of all ages, there isn’t much more universal than their love of furry friends. For all the animal loving kids (and parents) Willowbank Wildlife Reserve is a sure win. The wildlife park is interactive, relaxed and a fun environment to get up close with all sorts of cute creatures. The three sections, farmyard, New Zealand and exotic will introduce you to many species, including our special native bird, the Kiwi. There are even options to hand-feed the farmyard animals, which is always a highlight!

Time For Some Competition

To finish the day’s activities, nothing beats some friendly competition and old school arcade style fun. A more recent addition to Christchurch’s entertainment scene, Holey Moley is a mini golf wonderland... but it’s not mini golf as you know it. The multi-sensory labyrinth of unique holes will keep you on your toes until the very end, and you never know who the winner might be.

If you don’t want the fun to stop, be sure to also check out Archie Brothers Cirque Electric, which is located in the same centre as Holey Moley. The whole family will be overwhelmed in the very best way! All of the classics are there waiting to be played, including Mario Kart and NBA Hoops. Finish with a refreshment at Archie Brother’s Caddyshack Bar, where parents can enjoy one of the signature cocktails, and kids can feel grown up sipping on a Caddy Kid Mocktail (with lolly garnishes and all).
