Spring is here and with it, we’ve got some epic sporting events here in Ōtautahi Christchurch. From lightning-fast moves on the court to the thrills and spills of our top cyclists. From horsepower to motor power, these events will keep you on the edge of your seat.
Cadbury Netball Series: Silver Ferns vs English Roses
20, 22 & 24 September
Christchurch will be the envy of the rest of the country as we host all three of the Silver Ferns v England Roses games, for the Taini Jamison Trophy as part of the Cadbury Netball Series.
Warm up your vocal chords, make your signs and come and support the Silver Ferns at the Christchurch Arena, in this epic battle that will go down to the wire!
Riccarton Park NZ Cup Meeting
6, 10 & 13 November
The Al Basti Equiworld New Zealand 2000 Guineas Day marks the official start of Riccarton Cup Week and will give you a great taste of what lies ahead.
Guineas Day sees the very best three-year-olds travelling to Riccarton Park, hoping to follow in the hoof-prints of some of the greats of the turf.
On Saturday, Riccarton hosts the 3200 metre Christchurch Casino New Zealand Cup. This is one of the most popular racing events in the country and always attracts a large crowd!
Addington Cup Week
9 & 12 November
Catch the race every owner, trainer and driver want to win – The IRT NZ Trotting Cup, Australasia’s biggest harness racing day.
The course is 3200m or two miles and will be the fastest and most exhilarating race you’ll see.
The New Zealand Agricultural Show
10 - 12 November
Sporting prowess like you’ve never seen it before!
Come and see the amazing blend of sport and entertainment at the New Zealand Agricultural Show – there’s wood chopping, sheep shearing, strongest woman and strongest man competitions, endurocross – the fast and furious mix of motorcross and enduro, as well as firm-family favourite, sheepdog trials.
Vantage Criterium National Championships
The speed, the thrills, and yes….the spills, are back here in Christchurch!
Come and see New Zealand’s top cyclists compete in a multi-lap race circuit through the inner city. Take in the action from some of the best vantage points – what will you choose? An ice-cold drink on the Terrace? A picnic on the banks of the Avon? This is one of the best events this spring to get some action while also taking in the best spots of our city.
