Feel Good Activities in Spring
Spring is a season of hopeful emotions and new beginnings. It holds a fuzzy warm glow in our minds, one of flowers and warm days, longer evenings and the return of the sun – and there’s nowhere quite like Ōtautahi Christchurch to experience it.
Recognition of our mental health is massive right now. Do things that make you feel good, reconnect with yourself or nature, or give yourself a boost. Here’s some top tips on ways to love yourself in spring.
Be Relaxed in Spring
Spend Some Time with the Lambs
The Port Hills above Christchurch boast more than huge views across the plains and Southern Alps. Through September-November, the tussocky hills are filled with lambs! Check out Greenwood Park for the most accessible lamb-spotting.
Meditate and Stretch
Don’t just feed your stomach at lunchtime – feed your soul! A quick lunchtime meditation at O-Studio on Welles St could help to clear your head, as could a yoga class at IHF Health Club, Uprising, Apollo Power Yoga or any of the other fantastic operators. The city is replete with businesses aimed at rejuvenating yourself, so seek them out and feel good.
Be Active in Spring
Zip Through the Trees
A boost of adrenaline can kickstart your system and make you smile. What better way to get yours than a ride on the epic zipline course at Christchurch Adventure Park. Featuring the longest zipline in NZ, and surrounded by pine trees and views across the plains, this experience will never disappoint.
Ride the Wind with Velocity Karts
Harness a windy spring day at Velocity Karts. Their blokarts are like little yachts on land – like nature-powered go-karting but more fun. They can suit any skill level so don’t be intimidated. They’ve also got electric drift karts – one of only two places in the world you can hire them!
Be Involved in Spring
Serve Others with the Student Volunteer Army
Our city is internationally recognised as a place of caring and compassion. We band together when it’s important, and don’t hesitate to serve others ahead of ourselves. The Student Volunteer Army is a beacon of this spirit, with a range of opportunities to support others. They need volunteers at Covid-19 vaccine clinics, and for their grocery delivery service. Get in touch with the SVA today.
Garden with Your Neighbours
Helping tend a garden for all can improve your mental wellbeing, boost social interaction, and give you the satisfaction of growing food. There is fulfilment in completing simple tasks like pruning and weeding, watching things grow and understanding more about the life cycle of our favourite vegetables. Check out where your nearest community garden is, and get involved!
Donate to the Christchurch City Mission
The Christchurch City Mission provides critical support for thousands of people across the city. So how can you help? You can donate, volunteer in person, help to fundraise or donate your goods. Do your bit for those in need.
