The Kathmandu Coast to Coast is a multi-sport competition held annually in February that dates back to 1982. Back then Robin Judkins and 11 of his friends pioneered on the same course which is used today: the race starts at Kumara Beach on the West Coast and ends in New Brighton in Christchurch.
The competitors have to run, cycle and kayak 243 kilometres across the South Island. The race is not only for top athletes, there are different sections which can be completed by anyone. The top athletes covering the course of 243 kilometres within 11 hours.
Over the years the Coast to Coast has attracted 18 000 athletes from all over the world and winning it has become a hugely prestigious achievement.
