Winter weekend in Kaikoura

Kaikoura is home to some of the best wildlife experiences in the world – and that doesn’t change in winter. Whether you would love to experience whales, dolphins, albatross or seals, winter is the perfect time to pop on your jacket and skip the line.

Ryan and Jillian started their weekend exploring the coastline, seal colony, and historical sites around Kaikoura. After heading to the new Kaikoura Museum and The Pier Hotel restaurant for dinner, they finished off their day relaxing at the Albatross Backpackers for the night.

Day two starts with a trip with Kaikoura Kayaks – epic views and dolphins! Lunch at the world-famous Nin’s Bin. Followed by a tour with Albatross Encounter. If you would love to learn more about these incredible birds and spend some time out on the ocean, this is the perfect way to do it.

Their night was spent in the magical Manukau Pure Pod – this needs to be seen to believed. If you haven’t heard of Pure Pods, you’ve been missing out! Spectacular views and 100% privacy.

Day three started with a Wings over Whales tour. Kaikoura is the best place to learn about and see whales in New Zealand. Whether you experience this by air, like Ryan and Jillian, or by sea with the famous Whale Watch Kaikoura, whale watching is our Kaikoura must-do.

A walk around the beautiful Kaikoura peninsular to stretch the legs before heading back to Christchurch finished off their winter weekend.
