The (up to 120 seat) restaurant is in a beautifully restored
stone church, the cuisine is traditional Canterbury fare and the
music is to "dine for". The old fashioned hospitality starts with a
formal welcome by the doorman and ends with guests feeling part of
the family. The location is perfect. The Octagon is 75m from
Cathedral Square and within easy walking distance of eight
major properties that include the Heritage and Millennium Hotels.
It is also almost opposite the Christchurch tram's Cathedral
Junction.

Our Location
This “shrine to fine dining” was built in 1873 and is a precious example of Mountfort’s architecture. The stone work, shapes, stained glass and vaulted timber ceilings create a wonderful ambience and near perfect acoustics. Taking pride of place is the enormous 1871 Pipe Organ which is fully restored and is used to showcase music that includes classical, jazz and blues.
