Porters is the closest ski area to Christchurch, just 98km, slightly over an hours drive west on State Highway 73. The ski area lies in the Craigieburn Range, a 55 and 62 km minute drive from Methven via the Lake Lyndon road, one of the most spectacular back country drives in New Zealand.

Well known for its relaxed, friendly atmosphere, Porters offers something for everyone. Excellent beginner and intermediate facilities, home to the Porters Passport novice programme, plus plenty of on-piste terrain for the intermediate and advanced skiers and riders.

A custom designed and built terrain park, world class ski school, and warm and inviting Café offering spectacular views out over the Torlesse range. The off-piste on offer is dominated by two of New Zealand's legendary runs, Big Mama and Bluff Face. At 620m, Big Mama boasts one of the largest vertical drops in one lift-accessed run in New Zealand.

"So easy to get to, so easy to get around. Big Mama was definitely the highlight on a sunny, snow packed day on Porters. Would recommend to anyone basing their ski holiday nearby, in Methven and even an easy drive from Christchurch."
