Canterbury Golf Courses & Resorts

If swinging a club is your thing, you're spoilt for choice in Canterbury. Take your pick of more than 40 golf courses in the region – from casual country courses to international golf resorts.

Almost every town boasts its own course, dotted along the coast, spread across the patchwork plains, and against the backdrop of the spectacular Southern Alps. These courses have great facilities, and they love to welcome visitors. Come and see for yourself why golfers from around the world flock to these parts, at one of Canterbury's impressive international golf courses.

Hagley Golf Club

Head to the centre of town for a round within leafy Hagley Park – just one of 18 courses within easy reach of the city. And set aside some time to explore the fairways and greens of the regions.

Terrace Downs Golf Resort

Sitting high above the mighty Rakaia River at the foot of Mount Hutt lies Terrace Downs – named New Zealand's Leading Golf Resort at the 2010 World Travel Awards. Less than an hour's drive from Christchurch International Airport, this 18-hole course is alpine scenic golf at its finest. At par 72, it's a challenging course, with 11 lakes and 70 bunkers. With striking vistas in every direction, you may well find the biggest challenge is concentrating on your game. When you're done driving and putting, this high country retreat has a host of leisure and adventure activities on tap all year round. You can relax and unwind at the day spa, enjoy fine local cuisine at 1 of 3 restaurants, and rest your golf-weary legs in deluxe accommodation.

Clearwater Golf Club

For golfing basked in rural tranquillity, get yourself to Clearwater Golf Club, just 15 minutes from central Christchurch. At the heart of this resort development is an 18-hole championship golf course, where scenery abounds. The par 72 course weaves around spring-fed lakes and streams teaming with trout, framed by the Southern Alps. Five tee settings cater for all abilities. The adjoining Peppers Clearwater Resort offers the perfect place to relax. Alongside golf, there's fishing, tennis and pétanque on offer, plus 9km of walking tracks to explore. Enjoy an après-golf drink at the resort bar, or dine at the restaurant before settling in for the night at a lakeside apartment. Then get up and do it all again the next day.

Pegasus Golf Club

Play a round at Pegasus Golf Club, at the new town of Pegasus, 25km north of Christchurch. Set in the vast open landscape of North Canterbury, with views of the Port Hills, and the Pacific coastline, this 18-hole international championship course offers something interesting and diverse at each hole. Four sets of tees let you choose the level of difficulty, down fairway dotted with mature trees, native grasses, wetland areas, waterways and 11 feature lakes. If you fancy working on your swing, there's a covered driving range complete with automated tee-system. A café and bar are on hand to refresh and replenish, or celebrate a great round.

So pack your clubs and come and enjoy the world of golf Canterbury has to offer. While our courses are of international calibre, the fees are refreshingly modest by global standards. All the more reason to get teeing off here!
