Gardens of Waimakariri

Take time out to relax and enjoy the beautiful tranquil Gardens of Waimakariri.

There are eight country gardens to explore including large formal gardens, spring gardens, an historic chapel and floral freeze-drying business, country homestead and specialist rose nursery.

 

Many of the gardens are open by appointment only so please contact the Kaiapoi i-SITE Visitor Centre or owner directly prior to visiting.

 

Visit the countryside, only 20 minutes from Christchurch.

Barn on Giles:  Appealing destination shop specialising in vintage, retro and shabby chic.  The 4 acre garden is a delight to visit in Spring.

 

Wilsons Mill Garden:  Experience the tranquillity of this expansive 4.8 acre garden with majestic trees, picturesque lake and garden borders.

 

Millstream Garden:  Explore this idyllic 4.5 acre formal garden with the focus on themed tranquil 'room' gardens and water.

 

Millwood Botanicals:  Restored historic chapel in a picturesque garden setting and home to a floral freeze-drying business.

 

Breedenbroek Gardens:  Formal English style garden with stream and pond surrounded by undulating farm landscape.

 

Roses at Cust:  Specialist rose nursery offering expert knowledge and advice.  The display garden features over 500 rose varieties.

 

Ribblesdale Gardens & Nursery:  Unique garden and nursery specialising in alpines, bulbs, perennials, rhododendrens, azaleas and clematis.

Okuku Country Estate: Explore this 100 acre garden of gardens, woodland, bush and parkland landscape and the beautiful old historic homestead.

Gardens are at their best in Spring – Summer, but Autumn can also be very beautiful in some gardens.
