Introducing - Edward Donaldson

From Pegasus Bay Winery, Waipara Valley

Pegasus Bay is a 100% family-owned winery based in the Waipara Valley, 40 minutes north of Christchurch. They create many wines across two labels: Pegasus Bay and Main Divide.

The Donaldson family has been seriously involved in wine since the early 1970's and were pioneers of local grape-growing and winemaking. Their passion has been recognised by others with Pegasus Bay being awarded numerous accolades including being recently rated as one of New Zealand's top five wine producers by celebrated American wine writer, Robert Parker. Their focus on quality begins in the vineyard with an unusually large vineyard staff that allows operations such as shoot thinning, crop thinning, bunch exposure and fruit selection, to be carried out meticulously. Across the two wine labels (Pegasus Bay and Main Divide) an extensive range of wines is produced, with the focus predominantly on Riesling and Pinot Noir; however Chardonnay, Sauvignon Semillon and Merlot Cabernet also form a important part of their range.

Usually with a tap on the head from my 3 year old son (around 6am).

My iPod, an endless supply of good wine and my family - in no particular order.

5.       If I invited myself over to your house for dinner, using only the contents in your fridge right now, what would you make me?

Caramelised onion tart with tomatoes, olives, anchovies and fresh goats cheese.

6.       Where would you rather be right now?

A beach in Thailand, off the beaten track with a cool beer in hand.

7.       What advice would you give to your 15 year old self?

Don't be such a bogan (smile).

The ability to build/repair things without completely stuffing it up
