Addington Cup Week

Addington Cup Week has been a pinnacle of racing and fashion for generations of Cantabrians – and 2019 is no different!

Harness racing takes centre stage at this iconic BLOOM event, with the Christchurch Casino NZ Trotting Cup Day on Tuesday 12 November, and Show Day Races on Friday, 15 November.

How about experiencing your Addington Cup Week a bit differently this year? A bit more BLOOM, a bit more fun.

E-Scooter To The Races!

Instead of taking a taxi or getting your mum to drop you off, jump on an e-scooter to the races with a group of mates. It’s fun, cheap and emissions free! What’s not to love about that?

Our hot tip? Park your car in one of the CBD’s 10,000 car parks, then ride your e-scooter from the city to Addington Raceway – easy as that.

Races done and dusted? Jump on one of the free Christchurch Casino busses, head back into town and keep the party going along The Terrace, in the SALT District, or somewhere raging on St Asaph St.

Christchurch is flush with e-scooter providers, so take your pick! Download apps from these guys ...

Ride responsibly, wear a helmet, and live that sustainable life this Addington Cup Week! Epic.

Wear A Fascinator…Or Don’t!

Fascinators have forever been a staple of the fashion-conscious racegoer.

Keep the trend going this year, with places like Lovisa, Forever New, Green Stripes and The Iconic catering to all tastes and budgets.

If you’re not so down on the fast-fashion thing, make your own or buy second-hand! Grab the goods you need from your local dollar store or fabrics shop – best dressed awards here you come!

Over the fascinator trend? FORGET IT! Get a fresh do and let your hair do the talking.

What To Do After The Races

The glitz and glamour of the races is over – what to do next? Plenty, of course!

Left early and still have some afternoon to lap up? Tower Junction is just around the corner, stacked with shops and cafes. Take your race-day crew to The Speight’s Ale House for a good ol’ pub meal, or zoom on your e-scooter to Addington Coffee Co-op to crash on their sofas.

Gone the distance and still keen to keep the party going? Get into the CBD and extend the good times. Our city centre is pumping right now, with bars and restaurants filling the spaces between new buildings. Cruise The Terrace for balcony views and cocktail specials, or head to the SALT District for some genuine good times.
