“Our difference is the detail” has proven to be a winning formula for The St James Hanmer Springs.
The luxury accommodation provider is celebrating after being named New Zealand’s Best Motel at the New Zealand Hospitality Awards 2018.
Based in the heart of New Zealand’s alpine spa village of Hanmer Springs, The St James beat strong competition to take top honours at a gala dinner of hospitality leaders held last week.
Owners Paul and Rae Baigent say they are over the moon with the win and feel really privileged.
“When we opened The St James 8 years ago we set out to provide the best possible luxury accommodation experience in Hanmer Springs” Paul says.
“We were rated in the New Zealand top 10 hotels in the 2018 TripAdvisor Awards which was incredible. To now be judged Best Motel by our peers is icing on the cake.”
Rae Baigent puts their success down to a focus on detail.
“We have a luxury property with stunning mountain views. Hanmer Springs is undoubtedly a special place but that means nothing if guests are not presented with an amazing room and incredible service every time they stay.”
Rae says it’s a philosophy all their staff embrace.
“It’s a testament to the commitment of our staff as well, we could not have won this award without them”.
The award comes on the back of a string of successes for Hurunui businesses, including a recent Innovation Award for Hanmer Springs Thermal Pools and Spa.
Hurunui Tourism Development Manager Graeme Abbot says he’s delighted The St James’ hard work and attention to detail has been rewarded.
“We’ve always known the high calibre and exceptional service of the region’s tourism operators, but now the rest of the country is recognising how high our businesses lift the bar when it comes to visitor experience,” says Graeme.
“It’s a real partnership in the Hurunui; a win for one business is a win for us all. It’s a strong reason our customer service experience continues to claim top honours. It encourages all of us to strive for the best.”
“The Hurunui is a region that punches well above its weight, providing exceptional experiences for visitors all year round. We’re proud of what we offer, and totally committed to providing the best tourist experience in New Zealand.”
