Grand Hotels International to rebuild in Christchurch

Grand Hotels International (GHI) announces that Christchurch City Council has approved Resource Consent for rebuilding on their Cashel Street site, which is within the Central City Business Zone of Christchurch.
GHI proposes to redevelop the site with a multi-use development, offering retail, office space and hotel facilities. Pending all necessary approvals and barring any unforeseen circumstances, the commencement of the building may be sometime in 2014, with completion anticipated for late 2015.
Its local entity Grand Central (NZ) Limited (GCNZ) has assembled an exceptionally strong team of consultants and a contractor to assist with the delivery of this project. They include; Architects - Warren & Mahoney, Engineers - Aurecon, Project Manager - Resource Coordination Partnership and Main Contractor - Fletcher Construction.
The proposed redevelopment is a 12 level mixed use project on a site area of approximately 3,604 sqm. The redevelopment, at a total height of 50.1 m has a total Gross Floor Area of approximately 27,359 sqm. It will provide one level of 1,260 sqm of retail space, five levels of approximately 12,830 sqm of office space, five levels totalling 136 hotel rooms (approximately 5,777 sqm) and 64 car parking lots.
The development will incorporate best performing technologies for sustainability, cost effectiveness, efficiency and has been designed to meet the maximum required seismic building standards. It will include the latest in base isolation technology to provide excellent building resilience.
GCNZ has been recently shortlisted to commence negotiations with the relevant New Zealand government authority responsible for co-ordinating leases for various government agencies in Christchurch. Tenancies are expected to be long term and at commercially viable rental rates.
