Christchurch’s regional tourism organisation is welcoming the city’s bold new visitor strategy, which sets clear goals for capturing a large slice of New Zealand’s tourism market by 2025.
Christchurch and Canterbury Tourism Chief Executive Vic Allen says the new strategy, adopted by Christchurch City Council today, aims to substantially increase visitor numbers and the quality of the visitor experience for the new future-focused city.
“Christchurch and Canterbury Tourism has been working hard and has achieved some success in the recovery of tourism to the city. Now we have a roadmap for the next step, for not only returning Christchurch to pre-earthquake market share, but taking it to a new high.
“We have a city perfectly designed to appeal to visitors, a major gateway airport and iconic New Zealand landscapes and activities at our backdoor, giving us huge opportunity,” he says.

“Working together with a team approach will be critical to our success. We look forward to collaborating with Christchurch City Council, Canterbury Development Corporation, Christchurch Airport and Canterbury-wide district tourism agencies to make this a reality.
