AA congratulates Canterbury region on NZ’s Summer 101 Must-Do’s

23 October 2018

The AA is congratulating the Canterbury region for holding so many places on the new 101 Must-Do’s This Summer list which showcases the country’s hidden gems and local favourites.

AA Travel and Tourism GM Greig Leighton said the specially curated list is designed to inspire New Zealanders to get out and explore the world-class attractions close to home, rather than jetting off overseas.

“I think people will be thrilled in reading the list to see a blend of old favourites where perhaps they haven’t gone for a long time and there are now new things to do in those areas, as well as hidden gems that until now only locals have known about but that are well worth making the trip for.

“Kiwi summers last for a long time with hot dry weather well into March, and with so many long weekends at the start of the new year we believe there’ll be ample opportunities to turn many of the Must-Do’s into #MustDone,” Greig said.

To make the experience even sweeter, from 21 December AA Traveller is giving away a range of awesome prizes throughout the campaign including holiday packages, Must-Do experiences, event tickets, and free tanks of fuel to get to the 101’s.

“One lucky winner will also take home our major prize of a brand new Suzuki Vitara. Entry into the competition is simple, by ticking off a Must-Do off their list and uploading a photo to Facebook, Instagram or the 101mustdos.co.nz website with the hashtag #MustDone entrants are in the draw,” Greig added.

Loren Heaphy, ChristchurchNZ General Manager – Destination and Attraction, said it’s fantastic for the region.

“It’s fantastic to see so many Christchurch and Canterbury places and experiences on this list. These provide a great sample of all there is to explore in our amazing city and region. There’s nothing like spending a day at Sumner Beach or visiting Orana Park with the family, or heading off on a day trip to taste the seafood delights of Kaikoura or the Milky Way from Mackenzie.

“We know it will provide visitors, and locals alike, with some inspiration of what to do and explore this summer – although it is worth keeping in mind, this is just a snapshot of the awesome opportunities to explore while visiting our piece of paradise,” Loren said.
